Title 18 of the United States Code contains several subsections
relating to child pornography. Chapter 110 (§§2251-2260) deals with all
types of sexual exploitation of children, including using an actual
child or children to commit these crimes. However, many of the cases
being charged today deal with trafficking or possession of visual
images of children that are being distributed through the Internet.The child pornography statutes deal with the following crimes: sexual exploitation of a minor by production of sexually explicit visual or printed material; custodian permitting minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct; advertisement for minors to engage in production; trafficking in material involving the sexual exploitation of a minor; receiving, transporting, shipping or advertising material involving the sexual exploitation of a minor; possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of a minor with intent to traffic; selling or buying of children for use in the production of child pornography, possession of materials depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct; and record keeping offenses involving the production of sexually explicit materials.
