If the federal government indicts you with a crime, one of the most
important pretrial issues is whether the court keeps you in custody or
releases on you. The Bail Reform Act, 18 U.S.C. §3142 et seq. sets
forth the procedures for determining whether the court will release you
or detain pending trial. In certain circumstances, either the court or
the government may move for pretrial detention.
